Here is a helpful diagram to determine the lighting condition

Direct light-if the sun rays are hitting the plant, then the plant is in direct light. the light that comes in through west or southern-facing windows are great sources of bright direct light.

Bright Indirect light-the spots near a window that receives a dash of direct light (1-2hrs), or just out of direct light.

medium light- a few feet from the windows, in the middle of a room.

Low light- spots that are too far in to receive much light. Rooms with north facing windows or partially shaded windows.

low light does not mean no light, in low light environment, you are able to read a newspaper without the lights turned on

Shadow Test

Hold your hand 8 inches above a white sheet of paper.

Bright Light

All three pictures above indicate bright indoor light spots.

Notice the shadows have distinct outlines.

Medium Light

These three pictures on the top indicate medium light spots. the shadows are fuzzy but you can still see their shapes.

Low Light
